MARJORIE KAYE
ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The content of the images in my drawings concerns itself with the spiritual world present in natural phenomena, which encompasses many disciplines. These include the natural world, musical harmony, astronomy, mathematics, and physics. Much of the content is focused on motion and balance. The forms are created with the refined and deliberate realization of order and its direction. The motion is unified through color, light and pattern.

Each mandala is a snapshot in time. Each eminates a certain focus of energy, depending on the combination of geometry in the piece. It is suggested that this energy is reflected in the planetary motions, and can be, of course, traced to the atmospheric influence on the tides, the behavior of animals and people, the growth patterns of crops, etc. Thus, the mandala is fundamentally related to the earth and serves as a type of transmitter of earth and cosmic energy to the viewer, the receptacle. There are as many combinations of geometrical pattern as there are breaths taken by all of us, or moments in time. The mandala represents the beauty and complexity of the universe around us. These combinations can be harnessed by the viewer and used as a meditative tool to discover that the energies that lie within are the energies that lie without. We are all Mandalas, countless in the Universe, and our structures are everchanging. If we were to layer mandala over mandala, eventually the patterns would combine, merge to form One – pure energy and light. Thus, are Mandalas the Maps of the Universe. Art is the Power of Transformation.

The symmetry used in most mandala forms is indicative of our desire for and outreach to what we perceive as perfection. In nature, the symmetry is rarely perfect - rather, it is the tiniest flaw in the snowflake, the differentiation in the pattern made by a drop of water that gives rise to the materialization of the world . It is the striving to attain all cells of the Soul’s Body in the mere breath of a lifetime that causes unrest in the core of us. We have Eternity to fulfill the process of Becoming. Eternity is locked into a single unit of time, small beyond our capacity for comprehension. And yet the span of it is broad beyond all of the understanding of our point of collective Spiritual Evolution. To know this is to celebrate our collective Childhood, and to recognize that we are Beloved in the eyes of Spirit.

Time is Light
From the Center Source
Waves undulate
And Capture every Soul
Even the ones that try to run
A tendril of light reaches out
And grabs the renegade
And Returns it Home.

I celebrate the boundless range of elemental combinations present in the universe. From basic substances of matter emerge presences of infinite variety that take form as planets, comets, stars, trees, human-kind, and other celestial travelers. This is a manifestation of the creativity of spirit. This is present and reflected on all levels of being. It is with this observation that my drawings are made.
